COMPETITIVE HOCKEY

Competitive Hockey

The 2007-08 hockey season started with the creation of the Grand Valley Youth Hockey Association (GVYHA) and the Junior Maverick Hockey Club. After playing just one season in The Glacier Ice Arena’s House League, 53 players, ages 10 to 18, embarked on the Grand Valley’s first season of competitive youth hockey, 2008-09. Three teams, the Pee Wees (12 and under), the Bantams (14 and under), and the Midgets (18 and under), joined the Rocky Mountain Youth Hockey League and competed against youth teams from around Colorado and Utah. Though most beginning programs struggle for several years to become competitive, the Junior Mavs hit the ice hard, with all three teams finishing their first season in the middle of their age division standings. In 2007-08, the Bantam team placed in the league’s Frozen Four Finals! In 2008-09, our Peewees went all the way to the state finals in Denver to place 4th.  Call The Glacier to learn more at 970.242.RINK.

Mavericks Hockey

After only three years in existence, the Mesa State College Hockey Club Team went from last place in their first year, to 10th place out of 23 teams in 2007-08.  In 08-09, the Mesa State Mavericks travelled to Iowa to participate in regional playoffs.  This upcoming season, 2009-10, Mesa State College officials have picked up Mesa Maverick Hockey as a varsity sport, meaning more games, more travel, more training, and more fans.  Congratulations to our Mesa State Maverick Hockey Team and Coach Dudek.  For more information on Mavericks Hockey call 970.242.RINK.
